Safeguarding Adults Lead

Job Purpose:

We are looking for a person experienced in working with vulnerable adults such as adults with mental health issues, housing issues, learning disabilities, autism and any other social issues to be the adult safeguarding lead for our project.

We currently run 4 open access sessions per week funded by Barnwoood and Gloucester Funders and are proud that all members of the community can integrate positively.

You will be working with the children’s safeguarding lead and the rest of the delivery team and will be responsible for making sure that safeguarding records are kept, reviewing, developing and implementing project policies and procedures including individual risk assessments.  

This role will ideally be combined with another Rewild role.

What are the Responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Lead?

The DSL has a number of important responsibilities to fulfil on an ongoing basis. As the lead, it’s also part of their duty to ensure others in the organisation understand and follow safeguarding procedures. They will also work closely with any other senior individuals to coordinate safeguarding duties, such as directors and Governing Body’s.

The responsibilities of a designated safeguarding lead include:

  • Being available for all staff to discuss any safeguarding issues or concerns. They should ensure that all staff are aware of the DSL and deputy contact details.

  • Ensuring that cases of suspected or actual child protection or safeguarding concerns are referred to the appropriate agencies. The DSL will gather further information and evidence if needed.

  • Ensuring that all staff are fully trained in safeguarding and know how to spot and raise concerns. They will also help to maintain an effective staff supervision programme.

  • Undergoing regular refresher training themselves to ensure their safeguarding knowledge is as up to date as possible and in line with new guidance.

  • Ensuring that adequate reporting and recording systems are in place for safeguarding procedures, and that there are appropriate transferal procedures for records if students move.

  • Ensuring that the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures are up to date with the most recent statutory guidance, and that everyone who has safeguarding duties are familiar with any updates.

  • Communicating with families on the school’s policies and procedures, as well as any concerns or referrals where appropriate.

  • Complying with any Local Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) requirements.

  • Ensuring The Rewild Project has sufficient safer recruitment procedures.

  • Being aware of any children who may require specific safeguarding needs and have specific vulnerabilities.

Working Conditions:

Mobile – You will be required to have your own transport with full clean driving licence, held for 2 years or more.

Work may take place at your home, or at one of our regular sites.

  • A personal self-development / Rewilding practice is essential for working within The Rewild Project and our Sociocratic S3 model of organising and decision making.

Skills / Experience

  • Experienced in working with vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.

  • Experience or knowledge of alternative settings for adults with learning difficulties / mental & physical health issues eg Camphill Village Trust or other.

  • Experience dealing directly with government bodies: Social Care, Local Authorities.

  • Creative thinking in writing risk assessments to enable outdoor activities, mixing of adults and children to take place in a safe and healthy way.

  • IT literate: Outlook – managing multiple email addresses, whatsapp, document sharing, googlenotes, googleforms, online training platforms, zoom.

  • Experience living or working in cooperative or non-hierarchical settings, alternative settings, using Sociocracy /S3 or consensus decision making.

  • Good time management skills.

  • Authentic relating / communication / NVC. 

Required Qualifications / Training 

·      Safeguarding adults level 3+

·      Safeguarding Lead training

·      Full driving licence and own transport.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1.     Complete induction training.

2.     Attending education & logistics team circle meetings as required.

3.     Using Whatsapp, Googledrive, Google calendar, and setting up @Rewildproject.com email address for communications with team and participants.

4.     Complete DBS

5.     Review and update safeguarding policies and processes in line with latest guidance.

6.     Advise and provide mentoring where needed to other parts of The Rewild Project.

7.     Take safeguarding concerns and take appropriate action in line with policy.

8.     Feeding back progress to the logistics circle and working with other parts of The Rewild Project to promote the aims and ethos. 

9.     Ongoing staff training / team building across The Rewild Project.  1 weekend per month suitable for the whole family – commit to attend 10 out of 12.

10.     Agreement to ask for and accept help a conflict resolution process if / when a conflict arises.
