Richard Andersen

Natural Builder, Roundwood Timber Framer, Log Builder (and Techno Viking)

Richard loves to play with natural materials to see what he can build from them. His fascination with building dens as a child has led him to his current excitement with roundwood timber frame barns and log houses. Three years ago he visited his ancestral homeland of Norway to immerse himself in their traditional building techniques and now commutes by sail, spending summers in the Green and Pleasant Land and winters in the cold far North.

Teaching and spreading ideas are two of the foundations underpinning Richard’s crazy life experiment in being a modern day seasonal nomad. That and a desire to shake reality up a bit just to see what can happen. He was determined to bring the skills he acquired in Norway back to his UK community and 2022 is the year where he’ll find out if there’s enough people out there wanting to learn to make this viable.

His recently established business, Norwegian Wood, will be the platform for this venture, and The Rewild Project will be his first partnership in teaching log building to participants in the UK.

Richard is also interested in wild medicinal and other useful plants, having spent a year on the Wild Medicine Course with the Rhizome Clinic in Bristol. He holds a Holistic Massage diploma from the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork, practices total beginners yoga with Adriene, and believes firmly that a solid commitment to bodywork is the only sane way to approach physically demanding work.

Other than working with whole trees to build things Richard also likes to play with clay, straw, lime, stone, fire, wind and water.

And reindeer hides.
